Swiss Cottage House
This distinctive 1970’s 2 storey mid-terrace in Swiss Cottage has been doubled in size by the addition of a new ‘full footprint’ top floor and a large basement. The internal superstructure was completely remodelled and extended and structured almost entirely in timber studwork. The basement was constructed using traditional underpinning techniques and extending being the existing facades to create an external rear court/lightwell, terrace and an internal front lightwell.
The 3-storey wafer thin floating central staircase is made of carefully detailed folded steel stringers supporting terrazzo tread and riser finishes. This delicate and beautifully engineered structure is topped off by a large glazed openable rooflight creating the sense of an inner court.
