Newington Green Housing, London
Role: Project Engineer for Ellis and Moore
The redevelopment of an important brownfield site for Peabody Trust on the edge of a conservation area located on the busy road junction overlooking Newington Green. The mixed use development includes 44 flats (for sale, shared ownership and for rent), a restaurant/bar and a new Medical Centre. The flats and restaurant/bar are arranged within a seven storey tower which creates a landmark. The building extends in the form of a 3 storey terrace, in scale with the existing Victorian streetscape.
The tower structure was an in-situ concrete sway frame with a red brick infill. The terrace and medical centre was cavity wall with prestressed hollow core concrete slabs.
This award winning and well published project has been used as a housing design exemplar by Peabody and the Greater London Authority.
