Woolwich Arsenal Station, Elizabeth Line
The Woolwich Arsenal station is a key part of the Crossrail/ Elizabeth line extension and an important element in regenerating this historic naval area. The precast panel clad steel portal frame forms a concourse opening onto the historic, newly pedestrianised Dial Arch Square The large span canopy is topped with glass roof lights and leads passengers to the long platform, which in turn sits below an new public square.
The above ground structure is compact and robust and in character with the surrounding industrial architecture. The underground works are configured to maximise the potential for mixed use development above. A large proportion of the excavated soil was reused at a new RSPB reserve in Essex.
David was the lead structural engineer on the project leading a team of 4 staff at Arup.
