Chiswick Park, Phase 1, Chiswick, London
Chiswick Park, developed by Stanhope, was one of the first office developments in London to embrace the idea that people are more important than the offices they work in. Offering 12 open plan office buildings set in a beautifully landscaped 33 acre site, the development delivers a people-centric destination where individuals and businesses can freely exchange ideas and embrace new ways of working.
David was the structural design lead on Phase 1, comprising 4 buildings of between 800 - 7000m2 floor area . The structural design was highly efficient, optimising material use and designed to be constructed at high speed to a high quality. The structure is a hybrid of precast concrete columns with thin post tensioned/pre-stressed insitu concrete slab infill with a trussed steel core. The columns bear on single piles without caps. Elegantly designed exterior steelwork supports large expanses of glazing facade shading and louvred shade structures. David was not only the structural design lead but responsible for the management of the entire scope of Arup engineering services, including Facades, Fire engineering and Mechanical, electrical and public health.
