New Court headquarters for Rothschild Bank, City of London
Role : Structural Design Engineer and Arup engineering project manager lead for Ove Arup
The New Court headquarters for Rothschild Bank in London is located on St. Swithin's Lane in the City of London. The £80 million project, a redevelopment of the historic site, was designed to open up views to St. Stephen Walbrook church through a lifted ground floor and a transparent entrance lobby. The 18 storey building features a central cube for offices and adjoining volumes for support functions, all topped with a "Sky Pavilion" offering panoramic views of the city.
The structural design, using steel, suspends 10 efficiently planned floors of open plan office space above the ground floor, under which were basement levels. This created a generous streetscape with new connections and views ensuring that the public realm was as important as the accommodation above. David was not only the structural design lead but responsible for the management of the entire scope of engineering service for Arup, including Facades, Fire engineering and Mechanical, electrical and public health.
