Ideas Store, Whitechapel, London
Role: Site structural engineer for Ove Arup.
An initiative by Tower Hamlets Council to improve community access to public space, services and resources. The public programmes, a cafe, library and adult and children’s AV and learning centres are contained within a highly permeable and flexible structure encouraging public access with a vertical promenade from street level. The high quality finished exposed structure is a hybrid of an insitu concrete frame with precast ribbed slabs. A brightly coloured glass facade overhangs the pavement and is framed with glue laminated timber vertical mullions.
